living dangerously

Here she is. Kitty from Louisa Harding Summer Classics. In Cascade Pima cotton, a simple white cotton yarn with a beautiful hand. The gauge is significantly different from the yarn called for, but the pattern is simple enough to allow  modification.

It's very difficult to impress Operations Man, but he really likes this one. Even if he doesn't notice the tiny details that make it special, like these clever buttonholes (sorry, no buttons as yet, they are coming):

They are knit right into the button band, using a series of knit cast-ons that get incorporated into the cast-off.

The living dangerously part? Obvious. How long do you think a white sweater will stay white? Threats are everywhere.....food, coffee, dirt, pencil and pen stains, I've suffered them all, and doubtless this sweater will fall victim to one or more of them.

But for today, a beautiful pristine white sweater, beautiful white lilies, life is good.

single-minded

Last week, I casually wrote that I thought that I might be able to finish this sweater in three weeks. At the time, I knew that I was setting myself up. As in "dare ya to finish this sweater in three weeks".

Luckily, I have always been single-minded. As a baby, apparently I could be kept happy and quiet in my high chair if you just gave me a big pile of peas to smash. One at a time, I'd squash them until they were a snot-green pile of mush.

I think it's pretty funny how we tell ourselves that we know what babies are thinking. More often than not, I'm guessing we're wrong.

Based on my desire to knit something other than this project I can only conclude that I was thinking "Will someone please give me some carrots? I'm sick of these peas", even though my parents thought I was having the time of my life.
